best computer mouse

I got a HP laptop and since I need a wireless mouse, I decide to get this one. I wasn’t expecting much from this mouse. However, after using it for 3 weeks, I find this mouse to be very convenient to use.

The mouse got a very responsive laser sensor and work on most of the surface. I use it on Glass table, wooden table, and on the couch. It doesn’t not work too well on couch but I have no problem using it on other surface.

The mouse has a few dotted bit on the scroll wheel and it helps a lot in scrolling. It gives me control of my scrolling speed and it is very useful when I am reading an e-document.

I got a 13inch notebook without a CD-rom, so I was worried that I might not be able to properly install the mouse driver. But it work as soon as I plug in its USB radio receiver. Now I am using it without touching its driver and I don’t have any problem with it.

Manual said two extra buttons on the mouse can be configure to launch programs if the driver is installed. But without the driver, the buttons can be used to go back and forth in webpage.

Now for the downside

I am 5’7″ small Asian man,And I got a small hand. I need to take off some chain links in a watch every time I buy a new watch. So I am sure you can guess how small my hand are. Having said that, this mouse is very small in my hand. I am glad that I bought this for surfing internet with my laptop on the road and not playing games at home.

But its price beat all in my option.

Good but not perfect…, May 29, 2010

I’ve been using this for several months now.

The big selling point for me was the tiny USB receiver. I leave it plugged in to my netbook continuously. Another thing that’s important is long battery life. I have yet to replace the battery and I leave it on 24/7.

What I don’t like is the placement of the left side button. It sits to far forward and I have to reposition my thumb to press it.

The middle scroll wheel is noisy and not very smooth.

Also, the HP mouse software offers few features or customization.

I actually uninstalled the HP software and downloaded a free utility called X-Mouse. That alone made a huge improvement. The X-Mouse utility offers much more than HP’s utility does and it’s lite on resources.

Overall I like this mouse better than the Logitech’s that I’ve used.

The HP laser mouse is a good value for around twenty bucks.

Great Product, December 17, 2009

This product is awesome!!! The pointer moves very fast. The tiny USB receiver is great. I don’t even notice it plugged in the laptop. You also have settings in the software which you can program different things. (Like how fast you want the scroll wheel to move) I recommend this product 100% so far.

Works as advertised, July 7, 2009

I was skeptic of MS mouse products after using few earlier models. I’m Logitech converted. I use a G9 for my desktop, that’s simply an amazing mouse. However, this bluetrack tech has me blown away. It works virtually on any surfaces that you would use for a mouse “pad” the build quality is great, I love the two side buttons and the rubber grips. Its comfortable and stylish (be aware that the stock pix is misleading, the blue light does not show around the mouse)

This is a great little mouse thats very comfortable in the hand and accurate. I have medium sized hands and I dont feel cramped after using it for a long period of time. This would get 5 stars if it wasn’t for a gimpy scroll wheel. I have no idea why they would make such a nice mouse and skimp on the scroll wheel. There is no tactile resistance at all and its just a free wheeling scroll. I have the larger version desktop bluetrack mouse, the 5000, and its the same.

Excellent mouse hampered by faulty transceiver, February 1, 2010

In the past, I’ve had nothing but good experiences with Microsoft hardware and their warranty replacement service. Unfortunately, Microsoft’s hardware quality and support doesn’t seem to be what it used to be.

I bought this mouse for my wife and she absolutely loved the size, sensitivity and its ability to track on virtually any surface. Unfortunately, this was short-lived experience because the transceiver unit failed from overheating after a couple of weeks of normal use. The transceiver now becomes so hot that it is uncomfortable to touch when plugged into a usb port. Do a search for this model mouse and overheating you’ll find it to be a common issue.

To make matters worse, I’ve found it impossible to get support for this mouse without calling Microsoft directly. When you go to their warranty support site and enter the product ID listed on the bottom of the mouse, you’ll receive a message to the effect of “The PID you have entered is not valid for the United States” with no other options for support.

Not wanting to waste my time waiting on hold with Microsoft and against my better judgment, I wrote off the first mouse as a fluke and bought another one since my wife liked it so much. After one week, the transceiver failed with the exact same issue. Of course, the product ID listed on the bottom of the mouse gives the same error as the first one when entered into Microsoft’s support site.

Two mice purchased from two completely different vendors failed in the exact same way with no easy way to get a replacement under warranty from Microsoft. I’m going to be avoiding purchasing Microsoft hardware for the foreseeable future thanks to the non-existent warranty support.

This mouse came up under a search for wireless mice, it’s not wireless though. The lights are exetremely bright as well. Will be selling in the next garage sale.

It was a gift for my brother and he loved it so much..

The design is comfortable with hands.

The light is a littel bet flashy, but good.

Bought this mouse to use with my laptop computer. At first it worked as expected, no problems, that is until it was a week old. All of a sudden “the lights went out.” Mouse had no effect on the computer. I wiggled the wire a few times and, you guessed it, the mouse started working IF I held the wire hard over to the side. Obviously the wire is broken. Well, I got to use it for a whole week. Now I can throw it away and buy a better made mouse. One that will WORK!

Perhaps the Ideal Laptop Mouse!, February 20, 2005

I’ve had this mouse for a couple of weeks and am very satisfied with it. There was no software installation. I simply plugged the wireless receiver into an available USB port, put a “AA” size battery in the mouse, and turned on the computer. The mouse started working just as Windows XP finished loading.

It may be a little small for really large hands, but it fits my hand (medium-size male) perfectly with my palm resting on a mouse pad for comfort. In fact, it feels better than most I’ve had in the past (desktop or laptop). And the mouse fits into a side packet of a laptop case very nicely. As others have pointed out, the USB receiver fits into the bottom of the mouse when traveling.

The buttons are shapped well, as are the rubber side grips. The two large buttons feel solid, but the center scroll button is a little noisy and doesn’t feel as well made. But, that center button works as well as the other two.

Since I’ve only had it a couple of weeks, I don’t know how long the “AA” battery will last yet. However, I’m using my laptop mainly as a desktop, used many hours each day, and the original battery is still going strong. To insert the battery, press the silver button directly below the “Microsoft” logo and the top pops off (the release button is designed to look decorative). At that point, one will immediately see the battery holder.

The wireless feature works flawlessly. In fact, if one had really good eyes, one could operate the computer from the other side of a room. Yes, I’ve actually tried that, with the mouse moving the cursor around the screen with no problems.

I just read one of the other reviews where a lag was mentioned. I’ve seen nothing of this. In fact, after reading that review, I sat here moving the mouse slowly, quickly, tiny movements, short movements, long movements, and so on, with no noticeable lag. The cursor moves exactly as the mouse moves.

All in all, I think anyone would be satisfied with this mouse.

UPDATE: I wrote the above in February 2005 and have continued to use the mouse since (now Aug 2006). It is still performing well and the battery mentioned in the review above lasted through about 2.5 months of routine everyday use. I have since purchased a second mouse for my desktop computer, which is also working fine after about four months. The following is in response to issues raised by other reviewers.

To Edwin A. Pell III (New York), the mouse fits identically in either a left or right hand. To reverse the buttons, open the “Mouse” control panel and select “other pointing devices” in the drop-down menu listing your laptop’s touchpad.

Again, to anyone wanting to ADJUST MOUSE SETTINGS, use the “other pointing devices” selection in the “Mouse” control panel.

To A. Mazakov (Fairfax, VA), the mouse is not sealed shut. The screws are located under the four black adhesive feet on the bottom of the mouse. Pry the feet off with a knife and stick them back on when finished with your modification.

To Denis Dolgachev (Ann Arbor, MI), you do not have to disconnect the mouse each night. The mouse enters a battery saving mode when no movement is detected for some time, allowing batteries to last upwards of two to three months (depending on usage) with a continous connection. In other words, you really only need to disconnect the mouse when you want to move or store the computer.

Those mentioning lags, delays, or choppy movement should check the “Mouse” control panel settings or for things interfering with USB devices. When setup and operating properly, there is no latency behavior whatsoever with this mouse. Movements are fine and precise. The only normal delay is in the split second when the mouse recovers from the battery saving mode after periods of inactivity.

I’m a computer junkie, i have to admit that I fall for every gadget and gimmick that comes along when it comes to computer hardware. This was no exception. I recently picked up a new laptop and thought i’d compliment it with a new mouse. Whilst shopping, I noticed this little fellow on sale and thought what a great idea… the usb transmitter snaps in to the bottom of the mouse (also shuts it off so its not burning up the battery). Unfortunately the store that I spotted it at had sold out! I asked the clerk and he said the things were flyin off the shelves. Figured it must be worth a look so I went a few doors down to a competitor and found one.

Great thing about buying hardware from the evil empire (Microsoft), is that it pretty much all works without downloading new drivers. Plugged the USB transmitter in, snapped the included single AA battery in the mouse (its located under the top cover btw if you dont like reading instructions like me), and it fired to life. Nice smooth tracking, worked on all surfaces i tested except for the actual screen of my laptop.. hehe

All I cared about was to have an ultra-portable mouse that was wireless and worked well. I got the great bonus of, good price, easy to install, great function, perfect compatability. If it had two tumb buttons for fwd/back on web browsing, i’d write microsoft a thank you letter.

Must have gadget for for frequent travellers…, November 1, 2004

My second wireless optical moue after Logitech 931152-0403 Cordless Optical Mouse. Much better than the Logitech mouse as it lighter and “soft”buttons.

Highly recommended for laptops. Even though it has a “connect” button, never had to use it. Just plug and play installation. No need to download/install drivers. Used it with Win 2000 and Win XP.

Pros ::

* Solid responsive mouse

* Soft buttons

* Cordless so no tangled wires around you

* Optical so can be used on ( just about ) any surface

* Small USB receiver

* * Used it, without any issues, with my wireless internet connection

* Easy to replace batteries

* Single AA battery

Cons ::

* Might be small for a person with large hands &/or long fingers

* NO carrying case. Even though the adapter fits *in* the mouse. It could help to have a carrying case as well.

* Not aware of any way to program the “buttons” ( for “left handed” persons )
